The Importance of regular car servicing

Regularly servicing your car can make the difference between it running smoothly and fuel efficiently, and the risk of it breaking down and incurring an expensive repair.

Generally, your car should be serviced once a year or every 10,000 and 12,000 miles depending on the manufacturers requirements. If you own a high performance car we recommend that you should get your car serviced every 3,500 and 7,500.

A basic car service includes the following, Engine oil, Oil Filter and Air Filter - These parts need regularly changing to keep your engine running at its best.

Having a complete service history will increase the resale value of your car if you ever decide to sell your car.

What happens to my engine if I don't get a service on my car?

If you don't get your car serviced when recommended by your car's manufacturers requirements, at first you'll notice an increase in fuel consumption and later down the line you'll notice that your car will overheat as the oil turns to sludge, and very quickly destroying your engine.

What's the best service for my car?

At alderley autos we have 2 types of services. The Interim Service which we recommend every 6 months or 6,000 miles and the Full Service at 12 months or 12,000 miles whichever comes first.

We also say that you check your car manual for information on the manufacturers service intervals.

Do I have to get my car serviced at the dealership?

Since October 2003 you're not obliged to get your car serviced by your dealer. At alderley autos, we can service your car while keeping your warranty in order.

You must though get it serviced according to the manufacturer's recommended schedule and criteria using only manufacturer approved parts.

Do I have to get my leased car serviced at the dealership?

Depending on the terms of your finance agreement, it’s recommended that you go to a franchised dealer to get your car serviced.

Can I service my car myself?

Of course you can, and all you need is a few tools.

The first to do is check what type of oil and filters you need, with so many oil types you have to make sure you get the right type and amount.

You can check what type and the amount of oil you need along with what filters on this website - Opie Oils

Remember some manufacture warranties become void if you choose to service your car yourself, so find out what you can and cannot do before getting started.
