MOT time can be stressful! Avoid the stress of that MOT Fail and get a Pre MOT Health Check by Alderley Autos, Northampton.
What’s included in a Pre MOT Health Check?
In a pre MOT check, we check for exactly the same as a MOT tester would check for.
Bodywork is the first thing we check. Just like the MOT tester, we check the structure and bodyshell for excessive corrosion or damage in specific areas of the vehicle.
Steering and Suspension
We check the Steering & Suspension and all the parts that make up the suspension which include springs, shock absorbers, control arms and linkages. We look for damaged and/or weak bushes, split rubber boots, including ball joints.
Our checks will include the condition, operation and colour of your car’s lights. If your car lights are faded, we advise that you get them professionally corrected (polished) and only buy brand new ones if this procedure cannot be done.
Wipers and Washers
During the MOT test, this is one of the first things the tester will check. We ensure they operate properly and give the driver a clear view of the road. We also check the level of your washer fluid and top up if necessary.
Windscreen and Mirrors
While checking to see if your Wipers operate properly, we will also check the condition of the Windscreen. We look for any large stone chips and cracks that are in the driver’s view point. The maximum damage size is 10mm in the drivers’ line of vision or 40mm elsewhere.
We check the condition of the mirror glass to make sure there are no cracks and/or discolouring. Discolouring mirror glass we find is quite common on the Mercedes-Benz.
Seats and Seatbelts
We check to see if your front seats are secure. Our checks include the seatbelts. All seatbelts including the rear of the vehicle are checked for type, condition, correct operation and security. We also check to see if your Air bag light isn’t on, and if it is, we can do a diagnostic check to find the problem.
We check to see if all doors open and close correctly and that the latch is secure. Front doors should open from both the inside and outside of the vehicle. We also check the fuel flap to make sure that operates correctly.
Brakes, Wheels and Tyres
We visually check the condition of all brakes, wheels and tyres on your vehicle. Our checks include brake pads, discs, the tread on your tyres and make sure there are no dents in your wheels. Minimum tyre tread depth is 1.6mm.
Registration plate and VIN Number
We check the condition of the registration plate to make sure the font is correct and is in readable condition. We also check the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN for short) is present and legibly displayed on the vehicle. The VIN is a unique code including a serial number that is stamped on the vehicle.
